Understanding the Cost of Care

  • Medicaid

A federal and state program that gives health coverage to people with limited income.

  • Medicare

Federal health insurance for anyone 65 or older or some people with disabilities

  • Private Pay

Paying for services out of pocket without using health insurance

  • Long Term Care Insurance

A type of insurance that helps pay for long-term services that are not usually covered by health insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare

  • Catastrophic Insurance

A type of health plan that offers coverage in times of emergency.

  • Life Insurance

A type of policy that protects your loved ones with financial support and can be used to cover long-term care services

  • Veteran Benefits

A variety of benefits in connection with military service administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

While Medicare and/or Medicaid will typically cover some kinds of home care, there are multiple options to secure the home care you need. Long Term Care Insurance, Catastrophic Insurance, Veteran Benefits, Life Insurance, and out-of-pocket payment are just a few of the ways to pay for home care.

What Are Skilled Nursing Services?

Registered Nurses (RNs) travel to your home to perform general Nursing duties
like checking vital signs, administering medication, and bandaging. Nurses are professionally trained in wound care, disease management, medical equipment, patient education, and other recovery or medical needs, and follow a doctor’s orders when providing care. It is a safe and convenient option for people who need medical care but do not want to move to a Nursing home or long-term care facility.
